The Introduction of Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide
Dextromethorphan hydrobromide, also known as methorphan, is a substance obtained by structural modification of morphin by a Swiss company in 1950. Dextromethorphan hydrobromide is a central cough suppressant that inhibits the cough center of the delayed brain and produces cough suppression. Its cough suppressant effect is equal to or slightly stronger than codein. It does not inhibit breathing in normal therapeutic doses and is not addictive or tolerable in long-term use.
Dextromethorphan hydrobromide, a white or off-white solid at room temperature and pressure, is soluble in strongly polar organic solvents such as N,N-dimethylformamide, but less soluble in low-polar and non-polar organic solvents.
The Application & function of Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide
Dextromethorphan hydrobromide is mainly used for dry coughs, including those caused by upper respiratory tract infections (such as colds and pharyngitis), bronchitis, etc.
Side effects.
Side effects of taking dextromethorphan hydrobromide may include: dizziness, headache, drowsiness, agitation, belching, lack of appetite, constipation, nausea, skin irritation, etc., but do not affect the efficacy of the treatment. These reactions may disappear on their own after stopping the drug. Overdose may cause confusion, bronchospasm and respiratory depression.
